Food from local Farmers helping Families in Need
We are pleased to be interviewing Allisa Harris of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia’s “Souper Natural” Kitchen in Bolivar Jefferson County(map). We stopped by the Souper Natural Kitchen during their Ramp and Potato Dinner in which Kristen Dorsey of Divine Journeys also presented a lecture on harvesting wild foods for nutritional enhancement and eduction. Alissa is a practicing chiropractor who has a special interest in whole foods healing, and foods as medicine. She birthed the Souper Natural Kitchen out of her calling as a healer. In so doing she reached out th the local community and local small farms to not only enlist participation but to foster education and awareness of health, community and altruistic endeavour. It is here that we met Bob Shelley and Lorrie Schoettler of Stony Ridge Farms who were guests of Podcast #3, although we were without the “Podcast Chicken” during this episode Allisa was a great guest in and of herself there is “super” information in this episode for those interested in nutrition and the local economy of service and endeavour. This program has duplicability built-in and is being geared toward carrying the education and success here forward to other communities. If you are looking for engaging ideas for your life and community then this episode is about opportunity and resources.
When I said to my guru—when he was alive—”How can I get enlightened?” He said, “Feed people. And serve people.” That’s what I do. ~Ram Dass Author – Be Love Now
Souper Natural Kitchen funds are used to purchase organic and whole foods from the local farming economy and support needy families during these tough economic times. The combination of many facets of the community benefit not only from serving a direct need, but in the cross training and networking of support between participants. Starting Monday the 18th of June another offshoot called Souper Natural Market will also be opening , various vendors from around the local area will be adding their services and products to continue the growth of this idea they are looking for additional local farmers to come and sell goods. The Souper Natural Kitchen will also be purchasing food from these vendors to give away to locals that are in need of nourishing foods. Call Alissa Harris at 304-535-3009 if you are interested or would like more information.

The SouperNatural Kitchen
Mission
DONATIONS WILL PURCHASE FRESH, LOCAL WHOLE FOOD FOR THOSE IN NEED
Company OverviewThe SouperNatural Kitchen was created to help provide fresh, local whole food to those in need in the Bolivar community. Through a series of monthly SouperTuesday “soup” dinners, the community will have an opportunity to provide its support, get a terrific meal, a cooking class and connect with our local farmers.
DescriptionOn the 4th Tuesday of each month, the Bolivar Community Center will be transformed into a SouperNatural Kitchen and a classroom. For the first dinner, respected Shepherdstown chef Liz Gallery will be transforming Roxley Farms beef bones and butternut squash into a heavenly delight. Paired with Joan Douglas’s very popular, small batch bread, the soup is only part of the evening’s treat for diners. Liz will also be teaching a short 45 minute class on the health benefits and techniques required to make her beef broth at home. If you thought you knew how to make soup, this class will open your eyes to some new, souper horizons.
